The Demon Headmaster. Based on the series of children's novels by Gillian Cross, the BBC produced TV Series was easily one of the most well written and executed (in terms of design, music and acting)children's dramas that came out of the 90s. The plot of 'Look into my Eyes' revolves around an orphan named Dinah Glass who is fostered by the Hunter family. Her foster brothers Lloyd and Harvey hardly welcome her and soon she finds out why. At their school, the prefects are in charge, the children act like educated and obedient zombies and everyone fears the Headmaster. Dinah soon finds herself under the hypnotic gaze of the Headmaster and joins forces with secret organisation SPLAT in order to prevent him from taking over the country via mind control. The second story, 'The Prime Minister's Brain' focuses on a more dangerous scheme perpetrated by the Headmaster in order to gain hypnotic dominance over society, this time via computer hacking. There are so many good things to be said about this VHS tape. One is the faithfulness of the programme's narrative, hardly deviating in narrative direction from the original source material. Both stories are injected with such humour yet not lacking depth. Sadly, this is only into the depth of the character of Dinah. One of the themes is acceptance, the Hunter brothers accepting Dinah into the family. The other is defiance and determination, the SPLAT gang never giving up in the face of the Headmaster's cruel oppression. Congratulations must be aimed at Terrence Hardiman, who portrayed the Demon Headmaster for the entirety of the show. He is calculating, restrained, old fashioned, sinister and oozing menace. Any kid would be terrified of him. His goals to turn Britain and then the world into an mundanely organised society is like lawful order gone wrong.Read more ›

After an excellent television series of the Demon Headmaster in 1997, the bbc decided to release a video containing the series' "Look Into My Eyes" & "The Prime Ministers Brain". It is 139 Minutes long and is split into the two series'. The episodes in each series are run together so there is no break in between them. The video is very good quality and there the story is fantastic. I would recommend this video to anyone who watched the beloced television series in 1997 and who has read the exquisite books by Gillian Cross. Buy It NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
