Book Description

28 May 2012 Inspector Ann Lindell
WINNER OF THE SWEDISH CRIME ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST CRIME NOVEL Uppsala, Sweden. A naked man is unearthed from a river with a lacerated neck and the only clue to his identity is the remains of a tattoo that has been sliced off his arm. When a local drugs deal goes awry and another man is hospitalised with a similar wound, Inspector Ann Lindell and her team are called in to investigate. All clues lead back to the local Dakar restaurant, run by the gluttonous Slobodan Andersson. As Lindell delves deeper and is drawn into a dangerous maze of kidnap, blackmail, drug smuggling and betrayal, she must face a race against time to catch the killer. Already one of Scandinavia's crime-writing stars, Kjell Eriksson's third Ann Lindell mystery, is a thrilling display of brooding backdrops, unsettling suspense, and intriguing characters. Translated by Let the Right One In's Ebba Segerberg.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Anti-Crime Series 25 May 2014
Format:Paperback
If you read the blurb on the back of this book - reproduced here on Amazon in the product description - you would think that the book was a mystery about who the body in the river is and who killed him. Not a bit of it. In fact around half the book is written following the killer about, with whom you as the reader sympathise. The suspense is not whether or not the Police will catch him, but rather whether or not he will actually get away. The Police are competent enough, but get it wrong more often than they get it right and in fact they are fed a huge clue by another bad guy with an agenda of his own.
As with Cruel Stars of the Night, The (Inspector Ann Lindell) things sort themselves out in spite of the Police not because of them. Inspector Ann Lindell is increasingly becoming an incidental character in her own series. Kjell Eriksson is writing the novels he wants to write, keeping his loyal readers on-board with a vicarious interest in the Inspector's personal life. Nevertheless if you accept that and just read this as a novel and let it go wherever it likes, it is quite entertaining.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish 9 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is rotten. Totally without suspense or tension, clunking "plot", cardboard characters, thin knowledge of issues handled and horribly badly translated. The translation alone made it unreadable - errors in subject/verb agreements, the used of "disciplined" as an adverb - ouch. But as I really didn't care if they caught the killer or not, who knows whether it was the translation or the novel

4.0 out of 5 stars The Demon of Daker - I like this one 17 Nov 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Demon of Dakar is an excellent read, the description of the characters, their traits and faults and the locations in which the story is set is very well thought out by the author. Its interesting to see a Mexican element brought into the Swedish setting which provides an international flavour to the story. The character of Inspector Ann Lindell is a complex one, having to deal with personal problems, tension within her team and the danger of police work. Kjell Eriksson is a brilliant writer of the crime thriller genre and the Demon of Dakar is one of his best.
5.0 out of 5 stars Kjell Eriksson does it again. 7 Nov 2013

Kjell Eriksson does it again. In a subtle and seductive way he draws you into the story, the characters, and before you know it you're up half the night unable to stop turning the pages. Waiting impatiently for the next book from this author.
