Using a host of working images the author has captured an overview of the demolition process and some of the equipment involved. An interesting "reception" book which is sure to be browsed by any visitors to your offices!

4.0 out of 5 stars A book for heavy equipment enthusiasts, 20 July 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Demolition Equipment (Enthusiast Color) (Paperback)
This Book will appeal mostly to those people interested in heavy equipment employed in the demolition of buildings.

Do not expect to find vintage machinery here, this is a state-of the-art book on how demolition of lage structures is performed today.

the demolition industry has changed dramatically in the past 20 years, especially under pressure from environmental agencies demanding to recycle as much as possible of the demolition rubble.

You wil see plenty of photographs (all in color) of the machinery used today in the demolition of concrete, steel and brick structures (mostly bridges and buildings).

Only a few years ago, demolition was sinonimous of "wrecking ball". Well today the role of the good old "Skull Cracker" has shrunk somewhat and the book shows mostly hydraulic equipment.

The book does, however, devote a chapter and some good photos to the wrecking ball and another chapter to the "implosion" of the 22-story Pacific Palisades Hotel in Vancouver.

The book contains plenty of hints about how this behemoth machinery is operated and interviews of professionals from the demolition field who explain many "tricks of the trade"

4.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what the title says it is!, 23 Aug 2011
By Taylor W. Raab - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Demolition Equipment (Enthusiast Color) (Paperback)
This was a pretty good book. Anyone that is familiar with the series (they do a lot of train and other transportation related books) knows pretty much what they're getting into. There are a lot of great photos or the machines themselves and in action. Surprisingly there were photos of the operating cabs of these machines which were of interest to me.

As I said in my title the book is exactly what it says it is. Don't expect any text that goes into the science or techniques of demolition, this book is strictly about the equipment.

Being from 1996 the book touches on the then recent development of the long armed or high excavators with shear attachments. Currently this is one of the most prominent pieces of demolition equipment but was only in its very early stages when this book was published.

All-in-all a good book and interesting read.
