Tom Kitwood puts into words the skills required to care for individuals who also have dementia. Nurses with any genuine empathy for clients will be guided through the thought processes and actions that can take your care delivery to new levels. If you've not changed the way you perceive people with dementia, or the standard of nursing care you've been giving since 1990, this book will prepare you. Update yourself!

Up to date and incorporates modern edeas and thoughts around people with dementia. The book is laid out well and is 'signposted' throughout so that you can go back to something for reference.
This book also looks at the way forward, how the author sees dementia care in the future and gives a comprehensive breakdown of the many ways this can be achieved. This book has proved invaluable in my profession - occupational therapist within Dementia care & assessment.

Good book for explaining how dementia effects people and giving practitioners and others practical advice for working with / or caring for people with dementia.
Kitwood considers the individual and advocates recognising the humanity of people with dementia and not just their illness.

i read some of the case studies and i have to say it moved me to tears. easy reading and also easy to absorbe some of the technical jargon. Read more
