Product Description

Product Description
Having conquered rehab and romance, bestselling novelist Carrie Fisher has launched an expedition into the wilds of modern maternity, capturing its absurdity and ambivalence with singular deftness. Pregnant screenwriter Cora has taken to writing lengthy letters to her unborn child, and it's small wonder why. For that age-old script 'family values' is looking like it needs a complete rewrite ...

About the Author
Carrie Fisher has been a director in her teens, an actor in her twenties (The STAR WARS trilogy, HANNAH AND HER SISTERS, etc), a screenwriter and novelist in her thirties (POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE, SURRENDER THE PINK).

3.0 out of 5 stars an edgy look at Hollywood, 4 April 2009
By Jonathan Carr "joncarr" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When I read Carrie Fisher's Postcards From The Edge I was impressed. I was also impressionable - in my early 20s and unworldly. So it is great to find that this book is an improvement and for a more adult mind. Particularly interesting is the boyfriend, an entertainment lawyer who 'works at the non-creative end of a creative business'. Although on the surface the book muses about motherhood and having fun, Fisher manages to probe modern life more deeply and gets you to wonder what the point of most of what humans do could possibly be. Is modern life its own delusion, with fantasy outcomes that don't really serve who we are? Perhaps the author's own answers, that there is a legitimate refuge in drugs and alcohol, is not such a bad one after all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Synopsis from back cover, 21 Oct 2008
This review is from: Delusions of Grandma (Paperback)
When screenwriter Cora discovers she's pregnant, she begins to lose the superfluous things in her 'big, loud life'. One of which is the father of her child.

But as Cora begins to write letters to her baby, just in case she doesn't pull through the delivery, her own show-business mother begins to muscle in, a grandmother-to-be, with a string of first-night fantasies.

As much as Cora tried to change her life, she discovers that for better or for worse, family will always be with you.
