yes, this film is poetic, erotic and suspenseful. it is largely a very sensuous film, though i thought the sex scenes were actually the least erotic parts. each time was a very well shot and effective build-up, only to be ruined by extremely uniform, unimaginative, rushed bonking that will leave female viewers feeling cheated- and which detracts from the credibility of the film's claim to chart a true erotic journey.

i also got the sense (although i haven't read the book) that a lot was missed out or skimmed over; the film seemed to rush through all the various encounters and i was left feeling that the 'delta of venus' hadn't really been found, despite what the narrator claims. it was a good, enjoyable film, but i felt it could have gone deeper. and, please, some foreplay next time!

Sensual & Seductive 14 Dec 2008
By Steven Stewart VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Many people upon taking first look at this film would probably call is soft core pornography, thanks to its scenes of blatant erotica and sexual simulation. I thought the same thing but after becoming aware of the story and the great acting within, I noticed it's much more than that and a lot of the sexual content needs to be looked past in order to grasp the actual story and its purpose.

The story tells of Elena Martin (Audie England) who's an American Erotic fiction writer living in Paris at the dawn of WWII. Whilst in Paris she meets her partner Lawrence, an American novelist who to her represents the perfect man. The engage in passionate adventures but she has her heart broken as he reveals he must go on a book tour back to America. When he leaves, Elena agrees to write more explicit stories for an anonymous collector, but whilst writing these stories she is drawn deeper into a world of sexual adventure as she goes from being sexually innocent to sexually adventurous.

This is a wonderful tale of sexual exploration and personality development. Like I say if you look past some of the more sexually explicit scenes, this becomes just that. A tale of sexual and personality development.

To hide the raunch of Delta of Venus in a pretty package, there's lots of telephoto, foggy-lens photography.

The cast is attractive and capable. Audie England, who stars as Elena, a character based somewhat on Nin, looks like a young Michael York with long hair and a plump lower lip.

In the story, Elena is an American living in Paris with lots of artists in 1939. Out of work, she begins writing erotica for a mysterious benefactor who pays by the page. Too make her writing more realistic, she tries different sexual relations, which get increasingly, well, nontraditional.
