Delta Force--Black Hawk Down: Team Sabre is the first expansion pack for Black Hawk Down features two new single-player campaigns that take Delta Force deep into the jungles of Colombia in search of drug lords, then on to battle terrorist factions in and around Iran's island oilfields. Team Sabre will also contain a number of new multi-player features, including fully controllable vehicles, including helicopters and the LCAC hovercraft that let players wage war on land, sea and from the air. Over 30 new multi-player maps will also be included in the pack. This expansion pack requires original Delta Force--Black Hawk Down game to play.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 12 Mar 2004

As a die-hard fan of the original DF Black Hawk Down game I was looking forward to this oft-delayed expansion pack. I have to say I was severely disappointed. This adds nothing to the original, in fact this is a backward step, reminding me more of the first 3 lacklustre Delta Force games in wonky graphics and colourless gameplay. The addition of cheesy SAS types in one game (you have to play them, I thought this was Delta Force?) is just symptomatic. The addition of 3 or 4 new weapons (two HK assault rifles, PSG1 sniping rifle, and I think a bolt-action sniper rifle)are measly and of only passing interest.

When BHD first appeared early last year its graphics and gameplay were exciting. But a year later and post 'Call of Duty' we expect more. There is no palpable advance, in fact it often feels as though this addition is weaker than the original (RHIBs particular unconvincing). Gameplay is repetetive with only a couple a standout missions. It passes the time on the first play-through, but I'm pretty sure I won't be making any return visits.

The original Black Hawk Down was a quantum leap forward for Novalogic and their Delta Force series. It was an exciting addition to the action military sim market. The real life setting and inspiration lent a tightness of plotting and action. Team Sabre in contrast is flaccid and unfocussed, and sets the DF series and their makers right back to square one. I guess the added maps should be useful for multiplayer.

A big letdown. I still play the original BHD, but this adds nothing. Hopefully this doesn't bode ill for Novalogic's forthcoming 'Joint Operations'.

3.0 out of 5 stars Team Sabre : A Tough Nut, 6 Mar 2004

If you're quite accomplished at playing the original Black Hawk Down, Team Sabre will bring you back down to earth a little. Being familiar with the controls and gameplay style, I jumped straight in at "Operator" (i.e. "Hard") difficulty to get some challenge and longevity from the title. I was promptly shot to pieces after 20 seconds or so. However, since there are only 11 new missions in the pack, I don't mind being forced to play them for a while.

Reviewers have opined that the game engine looks a little dated, but I don't agree. If your video card will handle it, some anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering (try 2xAA and 8xAF for starters) will bring out some nice texturing and effects. Also, the smoke, flame and particle effects are particularly realistic-looking; other titles could learn something from this.

In all, this is one to tide yo over until Joint Operations comes out - think Battlefield 1942 with the Delta Force:Black Hawk Down engine. Nice.....

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine edition to Black Hawk Down, 25 Feb 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Delta Force - Black Hawk Down: Team Sabre (PC) (Video Game)
This is a brilliant expansion pack. It has all the updates for BHD as well! Be warned you do need BHD original to play this. The new single player campaighns are excellent. They both contain 5 missions each and are all different. They also seem more challenging than the original game. You also get to be an SAS solider. The accents of the men are really well done. All in all if you have the original you can't really go wrong with this. However if you are one of the few who didn't like the original, then this won't change your mind.
