5.0 out of 5 stars delphi compile the best e-books on the market 25 July 2011
Verified Purchase
Ignore negative comments on the web. There's some kind of feud going on between a reader (sincere enough, I'm sure) who spotted some missing stories in a Tolstoy compilation, and the director of Delphi, who has also been accused of planting fake reviews on Amazon. If he did, there was certainly no need, since these products are the best on the market--it's easy to knock off a few titles from Project Gutenberg and bundle them together in random order, but Peter Russell at Delphi has taken a lot of time and trouble, ferreting out obscure texts and including illustrations.
He also provides free updates, so doesn't forget about a project once it's on the market, and is clearly a real enthusiast. Typos are inevitable in scanned copies, and to expect someone to proofread the complete works of Dickens and get the product to market some time this century is stretching things a bit--in fact, the formatting is good on Delphi, and the typos relatively few. Also, I'd need several lifetimes to read what's on my Kindle now, so a couple of missing stories wouldn't bother me too much. So keep up the good work, Delphi.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect bargain 19 Aug. 2012

This is a well-edited volume. So far as I can tell, it is complete and has been put together as a labour of love, with many fascinating pictures. An ideal way to explore this fascinating writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Conrad collection 28 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase
I had previously bought two Conrad collections, one for novels and one for short stories, but this is clearly a better package than these others. It also includes Conrad's non-fiction that were not in either of the other two collections that I already had, as well as including some novels (e.g. "The Rover") that I haven't seen anywhere else in e-versions.

In common with other etext versions that I have seen, the short story "The Informer" has a couple of omitted lines early on (at "trevolte"), presumably where something went wrong with a scan at a page-break in the original book.

It's a great pity that so much of Conrad, other than the inevitable "Heart of Darkness", is not read more widely these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just brilliant.... 5 Mar. 2013

I read all the short stories first. If you love people, the far east, boats, ships and shores this is just the job..I am now on the full length novels, such great descriptive writing. Mostly the form of the language in which it was written..."grey" and not "gray" (always jars!) So thank you for that....so few errors too..a revelation and the best of what e-readers can do for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful stories 3 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase
I read Lord Jim in my twenties, was hooked and then read every published work by Joseph Konrad over the next few months. His use of language is beautiful without feeling excessively literary, all the more surprising for someone with English as a second language. Many of the stories are of the sea and I didn't think they would interest me but they are gripping and timeless. For me 'The Laggon' is the best short story I've ever read and I'm enjoying re-reading all of these old favourites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Value 10 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase
Conrad is one of my favourite authors and possibly the finest of writers in the English language. This enormous tome includes his short stories, many of which are entertaining reads, and novels unpublished elsewhere. For less than £2 it provides a year's worth of tremendous reading

A valuable compendium of Conrad's works to which, I am sure I will return again and again, having read Lord Jim. The irritating thing is that while on a kindle book of a single work you can, sort of, monitor your progress as percentages of the work read, in this Complete Works percentages are given as of the whole work, of the whatever thousands of pages it runs to. This becomes irritating/irrelevant if one wants to access any particular point in a given work (Lord Jim in my case) since the whole 'book' is between 9 and 11%, I think. I am sure a better scheme could be devised to help readers find their way without them having to resort to the good old BOOK, in paper and ink, for solace. However the price is so good that I guess I should not complain too much.

"Heart of great story-telling"
Not read a great deal of Conrad's
works yet but his commanding English, character defining and
wonderful description deservidly place him in the literary heights. A superb purchase.
