5.0 out of 5 stars Contents description is there. 14 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the other reviews stating that the contents page was missing and mine is listed at the very beginning. You then take the cursor down to the selected novel, click on it and it takes you to that work

1.0 out of 5 stars Full of mistakes 17 Jun 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Although this does have a table of contents, it's not one that the Kindle recognises so you have to go to the beginning and then turn back a few pages to find it; it's not surprising that other readers haven't found it. A lot of Kindle collected works have this problem. Once you have found the table of contents, you can only go to the start of each work, you can't jump to individual chapters.

I'm about two thirds of the way through North and South - brilliant book, read it, but not in this edition as this edition is full of mistakes. There's a lot of missing punctuation and at least one completed garbled paragraph - I think all the right words were there but not necessarily in the right order. I know this is cheap but I've bought other cheap collected works which were much better.

Elizabeth Gaskell deserves better than this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Badly put together 8 Oct 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I agree with the previous reviewer, in that it is impossible to find a particular book when all 20 are strung together without a working table of contents.
And this is not the complete works of Elizabeth Gaskell; for example, 'Crowley Castle' is not included.
You have to do better than this, Amazon, if you want Kindle to really take off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Which collection is being reviewed here? 18 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Because I've found collections from Delphi Classics to be good quality (though not necessarily perfect), I bought this despite the negative reviews attached to it. In all honesty, having downloaded and checked it, I can only say that I think Amazon has attached reviews of an entirely different collection to this one. I suggest Delphi complain to them; and prospective purchasers go ahead and buy this, if they're looking for a good collection of Mrs Gaskell's works.

Contents are accessable at front of work and go to page wanted. Images are in colour using Kindle fire. A summary of each major work at front with some pictures and own contents page.

Overall what I expect from Delphi Classics over time I have bought a number of these works great value with what is expected and more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Active contents page needed 11 Sep 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
The description implies that the contents page is active, but you can't use it to go straight to a particular title. Great idea to have so many works from such a wonderful author, but without an active contents page collections such as this are not much use. Could we have clearer descriptions of such texts please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Contents now active 10 Oct 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I can appreciate that without the facility to go to the content you want, it could be a frustrating experience. But, fortunately, they seem to have corrected the 'bug' and everything is AOK. I'm looking forward to reading Gaskell, 19th Century England is my bag.
