My main criterion for any kitchen gadget is that it takes less time to clean afterwards than the time saved using it, a seemingly obvious quality that nevertheless seems to escape many equipment manufacturers. I think nearly everyone's got the 'gadget graveyard' in their house filled with juicers and sandwich makers that were simply more effort to clean than they were worth.
This is what's always put me off buying a deep fat fryer, that and the memory of the grease-encrusted, smelly horror in the corner of the family kitchen (The deep fat fryer, not me Mum),however, I'm now at that time of life when age and recurrent drunkenness are making a chip-pan based tragedy a near certainty, so..
I do favour DeLonghi products, liking their retro/industrial styling and the 'professional' feel they have when your using them, and this fryer is no exception. Ideal for a modernist kitchen like mine.
In use, it heats up quickly and makes a perfect chip, though I haven't used it for other stuff yet.
Best of all it does exactly what it says on the tin, all of the bits that need cleaning after use come off easily and can be washed in the sink, and the body of the fryer wipes clean good as new.
So, no complaints whatsoever here. Exactly what it advertises itself to be.
