This review is from: Della Jones: Great Operatic Arias (Audio CD)
... makes it impossible for mezzo-soprano Della Jones to sustain the arching phrases of 18th C opera arias, not with the artistry of such current HIPP baroque specialists as Sandrine Piau, Romina Basso, Sara Mingardo. Jones's tuning isn't always on the button, either, and her higher and lower registers sound just a little too consistently divergent in timbre. This is not a CD that you'll enjoy if your standards are as high as mine.
Della Jones was born in 1946, in Wales, and I have the impression that she's among the beloved stars of British opera in her generation. In effect, she must have been a 'transitional' figure in the reassessment of vocal technique based on historically informed performance practices. In that case, I'm willing to pay her all due reverence.
There are samples here. If you think I've been unjust, feel free to remonstrate with me.
