Problems with the stylus, problems with over-heating, problems with wifi, problems with blue-tooth, problems with mirroring, apps are generally pathetic, can't get it to size Word, Excel etc to my satisfaction BUT at least it does run them properly with no hesitation on large file sizes.

The Venue 8 Pro is a proper computer and, with a bit of fiddling, you can get it to do anything a lap-top will do - and pretty speedily too. My main reason for selecting this tablet instead of an iPad is so that I could get full access to my servers - and it does that perfectly. An iPad or indeed any Apple product is designed to be 'easy' to operate but only for the things THEY want you to do. The Venue 8 Pro CAN do anything but it certainly does not operate as slickly as an iPad. The iPad does what it does beautifully but just try working on files somewhere else on your network and filing them exactly where you want to file them. Try opening a large file on an iPad and it will simply give up!

So, it is horses for courses and I chose the Venue 8 Pro for the difficult tasks that an iPad simply can't do. Sadly it has not been very reliable. I am on my second stylus and my third tablet. Dell were very good about replacing them but the whole experience has left me with little confidence in its life expectancy after the warranty runs out. Also, the battery life already seems to be shortening - not encouraging!

UPDATE: Now 11 months old and the Network Adaptor has packed up yet again. This will be the third time it has had to go back to Dell. The first two occasions they were commendably polite and very quick. This time they are dragging their feet and have not yet even accepted responsibility. Draw your own conclusions.

I will update this review with the outcome.

The best. It is a tablet and a computer. It is fast and windows 8.1 is great. Once you get use to it you ask yourself how you ever used other operating systems.....I own an I pad and a android Samsung that I don't use anymore. I highly recommend this great tablet.

I'm an IT tech, and I consider myself pretty good at troubleshooting and fixing issues. However, this tablet has really tested my patience with computers.

It's been hard to work out just what causes the issues with this tablet, but it seems to be the updates from Microsoft for Windows. Besides the fact that the tablet frequently freezes, won't turn on, and the touch screen has accuracy issues, the WiFi connection is woefully inadequate. It truly has a life of its own. Driver rollbacks don't sort connectivity problems, router setup only fixes half the problems, and data transfer via WiFi is painfully slow. I would you advise to trawl the internet for posts concerning network issues before you think about buying this tablet, and even then I wouldn't recommend it as your daily driver.

On the plus side the tablet is sturdy and feels well constructed. The display is quite crisp and even at 8 inches you can do quite a bit of "under the hood" work, so you can use it in desktop mode without too many issues. Anything smaller than 8 inches would be pushing it.

I purchased the Folio case, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and the stylus. The case is reasonable good, as the plastic back provides great protection, and also holds the stylus when not in use. However, it is not very comfortable in the hand. No issues with the keyboard or mouse whatsoever, but the stylus is a little hit and miss.

Overall, I give this tablet three stars. If the WiFi issues and reliability was sorted out this would be a good little laptop replacement for daily use. But in its current state I just can't rely on it to do the job. I will continue to try and work through the problems because I have an interest in fixing such things.

My son is very pleased with tablet. He is normally an 'Apple' person but he saw someone using one on the train, who was also very impressed with it, and liked the size and the keyboard attachment. He has also bought the keyboard and is now using it all the time for his school work. Would recommend. No problems with it so far. He did buy the keyboard and case too.
