I'm not a techy type of chap so all that you'll find here is an opinion from a 'man on the street'.
The product arrived very timely and well packaged. Having un-packed the box, I plugged the beast in and that was about all I had to do. I didn't have to run a CD to download any drivers or explain how it works, it just worked straight out of the box.
The clever thing for me with this monitor is that I have a limited amount of space at the rear of my workstation (about 21 inch height restriction) This monitor slides up and down on an internal spring so the height is adjustable and it fits under my shelf a treat.
Great product, I certainly can't fault it. I know absolutely nothing about pixels, resolution or definition. What I know is that I can see plenty of sharp pictures and words on my screen. Works for me....

I bought this 19 inch monitor to replace my old 17 inch one, and I think monitor technology has moved on a bit since then. Before buying I did a lot of research on the best screen to get. I came to the conclusion that for general web surfing and emails which I do most of the time on my computer, you are best with a standard 'square' screen (like this one) as opposed to a wide screen one. The reason is that up and down space for web pages is just as important as left to right. With widescreen you might get less of the page at the bottom, so have to scroll down more, and you either get bands of unused screen space on either side of the page, or the page fills out to fill the whole width, in which case you end up having to move your head alot when reading the page, as if you were watching tennis.
Another factor is resolution: Alot of the newer widescreens have very high resolution, such as 1920x1080, which is great for watching films, but the writing on web pages will seem very small to read, and could ultimately lead to fatigue. Anyway, I decided to go for the same resolution as my old screen: This Dell has a native resolution of (1280x1024) but is 2 inches wider than my old one; boy, does that little bit extra make a big difference: the smallest text on web pages now looks more comfortable to read, and it is in general a more laid back viewing experience. The colour reproduction is superior to my old monitor, the text is crisp. Images such as photographs look great, with plenty of detail; The menu is reasonably easy to use, although if you are using the dvi (digital) connection, the actual adjustments you are able to make is limited mainly to brightness and contrast. The spec for the brightness of this monitor (250 cdm2) is a bit lower than some other monitors and I was a bit worried that it might be not bright enough. I need not have worried; it came out of the box set at 75% brightness, and had to quickly turn it down to 50% to stop it burning my eyeballs out!
And now for the minus point, which is why I knocked a star off my rating: This monitor uses 'TN' technology like alot of other 'budget' monitors, which means that the colour reproduction across the screen is not consistent; things near the bottom of the screen appear to be a bit lighter in colour than near the top of the screen. I put my old monitor back on and realised that it was the same, except that I hadn't noticed. The larger screen you have, the more noticeable this effect is. However, don't let this put you off, unless accurate colour across the whole screen is important to you, if you are a photograph editor for example; in which case you need to go for a more expensive monitor with 'VA' or 'IPS' technology. Now that I have used the monitor a while, I have basically stopped noticing this effect much; but am still a little disappointed because it is labelled on the Dell website as a 'professional' monitor, and the top price on their site is £180, which is not exactly cheap. I'm just glad that I only paid £140 for it through Amazon.

Simple Dell Monitor 24 Jun 2011
By RobW
A straightforward standard aspect monitor at a fair price. Purchased to act as a second monitor alongside an existing Dell monitor of the same (but older) model. Works well straight out of the box and allows easy scrolling across the two monitors even though one is attached through DVI and one through the old 15 pin analogue socket.

The inbuilt USB hub adds another four USB sockets giving eight usb connections (across the two monitors) on the desk without having to reach down to the PC - BUT two are blocked if the monitors are placed directly side by side.

Display controls on the front are fiddly but useable allowing good control of the display settings.

Dell 190S Monitor
Quite a good monitor and with Amazon dropping the price good value as well. Very clean looking with matt black surround, screen colours needed little or no adjustment at all.
