Purchased 2 of these from Conrad for my children at uni. I chose these having had previously good results from a Dell 1320n laser printer. All of these models have low running costs when used with compatible cartridges. Unfortunately, I had not researched this printer well enough before purchasing. It has one major flaw:-
Printer cannot be detected by PC, (here running Vista / Windows 7), when in "deep sleep" mode, when PC restarts from shutdown or from a restart cycle.
Applying the latest Software / Drivers / Firmware does not solve the problem. The only work around is to restart / wake up the printer before booting up the PC, or unplugging and plugging printer usb lead back in when pc is up and running.
From forums I have looked at, (including Dell's), I now find this is a common problem with this printer for which Dell has not yet provided a solution. The printer automatically goes into "deep sleep" mode after a predetermined time. It is not possible for the user to stop this happening. Other usb printers do not have this problem.
I considered this an unacceptable fault and returned them both to Conrad for a refund.
I have subsequently purchased the more expensive Dell 1350cnw, which is basically the same printer but with more connection options. This model on the other hand has worked perfectly via a usb connection and communicates its presence whilst in 'deep sleep mode' to a newly booted / restarted PC.
I have seen some positive comments about the 1250c printer. It is of course possible that I had 2 faulty units. However, I suggest you Google this problem and check the results before you purchase.
