A thoroughly comprehensive decade long review of the Marvelettes hits - and a few missing gems. It highlights the magnificent voice of the group's main lead singer Gladys Horton (who sadly died early in 2011); but when Wanda Rogers took over the lead in 1967 this is when their slide into obscurity started. A great accompanying booklet packed with information. The quality of the recordings is brilliant. Well worth the money!!!

MARVELETTES DELIVERED! ~ BRAVO GREAT LADIES!!! 7 Aug 2007
By Bradly Briggs - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The Marvelettes were the first wildly successful "Girl Group" to put Motown Records on the map in the early sixties with the huge #1 mega-hit "Please Mr. Postman"...they went on to become a unique Legendary Group who recorded a brilliant eclectic mix of great songs throughout the wondrous musical sixties making them a groundbreaking original classic group that stands as one of the all time greatest! Blessed with two awesome lead singers being the fiery Gladys Horton and the sultry Wanda Young (Rogers), this collection covers the many hightlights such as the top ten memorable "Beechwood 4.5789", smoldering soulful delights like "You're My Remedy", "I'll Keep On Holding On" & "Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead, to rocking rhythmic classics like "Too Many Fish In The Sea". The Marvelettes Wanda Rogers created totally hypnotic vocals and great examples are classic songs such as "Don't Mess With Bill", "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" and the timeless masterpiece "When You're Young And In Love" which still appears in tv tracks and motion picture scores! Anyone who loves the Legendary Girl Groups and just plain great singing will find hours of joy in this masterful collection...thank you to the Marvelous Marvelettes who earned this title from producing this brilliant musical treasure!!!

This is why they were "marvelous" 6 May 2005
By FrankMJ - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
There are many compilations of their music but this double-cd is the best of the bunch because it features most of their B-sides, some of which were previously unavailable. This collection underscores the shame it has been that the Marvelettes have never received the recognition they deserve for being not just Motown's first successful girl-group, but the quintessential representation of the genre.

Soul R&B 10 April 2009
By Wolfhound - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The Marvelettes are the one of the best 'girl groups' of this era. With two lead singers in Gladys Horton and Wanda Young, the Marvelettes cranked out some great dance numbers and cool ballads. Their style is a mix of pop, soul, gospel, blues, jazz and a dash of funk. Some of the best songs written by Smokey Robinson were recorded by these ladies. It's no secret the Marvelettes were one of the main catalists in putting Motown on the National Music scene. With 12 top 40 tunes to their credit and some great misses and excellent B-sides, this collection is one of the best featuring the Marvelettes and the Detroit sound.
