Product Description

Product Description

An utterly compelling story of brave a young woman who survived a childhood in hell.

Book Description

'When I was a little girl I believed what I was told over and over again: that I was evil, that I deserved to be tortured because I was the Devil's child . . .' In April 2007 foster-mother Eunice Spry was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for her sadistic abuse of the children in her care. The details of her cruelty were so sickening they shocked the country. Alloma Gilbert was one of Spry's young victims, sent to live with her at the age of six and left at her mercy for eleven brutal years. Eunice used her own twisted religious beliefs as an excuse for punishing her foster children. When she took them to live on an isolated farmhouse, the abuse escalated to terrifying levels - a stick was thrust down Alloma's throat so often it was stained red with blood, she was starved for over a year and survived only by secretly eating pigswill, and the vicious beatings were relentless. At the age of seventeen she finally escaped but, alone in the outside world, she fell prey to abusive men. It was the birth of her baby daughter that saved her, that finally taught her what love really is. Written with powerful honesty, Deliver Me From Evil is a moving and inspiring story of survival.

This review is from: Deliver Me From Evil: A Sadistic Foster Mother, A Childhood Torn Apart (Paperback)
I wasn't sure what to expect when i purchased this book. Ok i knew it was going to be a true account of what happened in the clutches of Eunice Spry but i found myself snapping this book shut quite a few times with the utter shock and disgust of what these poor children went through. I read this book basically in three nights due to the fact i couldn't put it down, well besides the few times i had to with the overwelming emotion i felt. This book is surprisingly graphic at times but no matter how you put these types of abuse into words i'm sure it will shock anyone. This book is wonderly written and shows us all how vile humans can be. I am sure that this is a huge step with the healing process for Alloma and I wish all the children who are now adults all the luck in the world to building a wonderful future, they deserve it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking, 6 July 2008
This review is from: Deliver Me From Evil: A Sadistic Foster Mother, A Childhood Torn Apart (Paperback)
ok..im the kinda person who can read pretty much anything and it not affect me i read Dave Pelzers story shocked but not haunted by it , ive read quite a few of these kind of books with shock but they had little affect i thought the were extemerly good reads. I herd about Eunice Spry on the news when she was convicted, then herd many things about Child C first but i couldnt find it at my local libary so i got out this book knowing that it had somthing to do with Child C . I started to read it and found shocking and disturbing i got half way through when Eunice forced Alloma to eat porridge with rat droppings and more horffically when Eunice locked Alloma's 'brother' and 'sister' in a room for a month forced the young boy to drink his urine and the girl to eat her excrement, i found that i just couldnt go on i started dreaming of having poles shoved down my throat and being tortured in the same way i feel so much for Alloma Gilbert and her fellow siblings being abused , i took this book back to the libary half read wishing i had the nereve and heart to carry on. This book is not for the faint hearted it truley is the most upseting thing i am yet to read. Alloma shows that if she can surive what Eunice did to her i can survie anything !

5.0 out of 5 stars *An inspiration to me*, 15 Mar 2008
This review is from: Deliver Me From Evil: A Sadistic Foster Mother, A Childhood Torn Apart (Paperback)
This book is an exeptional inspiration to me and the courage in which this woman has is somewhat amazing. I wonder about the little things in this world that affect the people around us yet Miss Gilbert had the ultimate determination and strengh within her, that she must carry on for the sake of not just her but for other survivors and people to afraid to stand up to these bullies and evil scum (excuse my language lol). I always feel happy that a survivor of abuse can finally be out of their abuser's grasp and eventually be free.
