I bought this CD to replace my treasured LP copy. It is also a good time to recall the evening I attended a concert to hear Ralph Holmes play the Beethoven Concerto. He had started to play when a few latecomers arrived to take their seats near the front of the stage. Mr Holmes stopped playing and with a broad grin on his face welcomed the arrivals by guiding them verbally to their seats saying something to the effect that it wouldn't sound too bad even though they would be sitting close to him. Needless to say this remark further endeared him to his audience.
It is only fitting that the soloist and conductor on this disc both true gentlemen of the classical musical world and both now tragically no longer with us should be joined in making this recording of some of the most tranquil and beautiful music in the whole output of classical music.
Perfect music to relax to.
