I heard Phased a view years ago on some obscure radio station, and it always bugged me that I couldn't find the song. That was until I heard it again, recently, I was compelled to get the ablum. Santessa offers a mix of Portishead, Zero 7, Bjork and something Sarah MacLachlan-ish. It's also a really good album to have in the background. Best Thing is that kind of song you want to have playing when you're on the beach. It's so relaxing. You just find yourself nodding in agreement to some of the lyrics (especially Phased). She's singing about the emotions she's experienced in life. Things you can actually understand. This makes such a nice change from the usual, commercially sugar-coated, earth-shattering emotions that we hear. It's an eclectic mix of jazz, trip-hop, sometimes reggae, with soothing vocals. In a way, I'm glad Santessa hasn't gone mainstream because I want to be selfish and keep this album all to myself. Everything about this album makes it worth the price you'll have to pay to get it imported.
