4.0 out of 5 stars Four fun stories 30 April 2013
By humanitysdarkerside VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition
"Fire, Fangs and Brimstone" consists of the four short stories: "With Good Intentions", "Lilitol the Curmudgeon", "Hellhound Rescue" and "Blue Moon".

"With Good Intentions" was first published by Necrotic Tissue in 2009. Bureaucracy is bureaucracy whether you are on Earth or in Hell.

"Lilitol the Curmudgeon" was first published by Bards and Sages Quarterly in 2011. We get to see "X-mas" from the point of view of Jilgar, the dragon.

"Hellhound Rescue" was first published by Flash Scribe in 2009. Not all pets are easy pets.

"Blue Moon" is a tale about love and exes and sacrifice.

Nicky Drayden har written short stories full of humor and quirckyness. It did not take long to get through the collection and I enjoyed the journey.

3.0 out of 5 stars VERY short tales! 10 Jun. 2011
By Frosty the SnowSEP - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Even though I'm not a fan of short stories, the title to this one caught my eye and the description of the stories appealed, so I picked it up. The stories were not bad at all (they all had been previously published) and the writing was good, but the they were SHORT! One (the one I was most looking forward to, unfortunately) was ONE PARAGRAPH long! Granted, it does take a great deal of writing skill to condense an idea into one paragraph, and leave the reader thinking of all the possibilities the quick situation-sketch could open up, but I still felt a bit shortchanged. The longest story was only about 3 pages on my DX, and was IMO, the weakest of the four.

Verdict - if you like short stories, this may be your cup of tea, but I prefer mine a little 'meatier'.

Note on Kindle formatting: Excellent. No issues were noted.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weird, weirder, and weirdest!! 15 Jun. 2011
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Now that I have a kindle I read ALOT of free stories, and most of them are short. But I must say this, this was by far one of the strangest ebooks I have read so far. The first story in the collection was kinda funny, but after that they just kept getting weirder. If you are into fantasy, and weird then give it a read you may enjoy it. I am not saying its bad, because they were well written, just not my genre...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mildly Entertaining 13 Dec. 2011
By G. Kimball - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Entertaining enough but nothing really special (I did particularly like the story 'Hellhound Rescue'). Being free it's worth a download and quick (very quick) read. I don't think I'll be buying the others, though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Short, Not Very Good 11 Mar. 2012
By James N Simpson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All four stories together will take about ten minutes to read. The shortest Hellhound Rescue about twenty seconds. None are very good. But if you're still interested I have written a sentence to tell outline what each story is about. Anymore and I would be giving away what happens.

With Good Intentions
A minion of hell is getting sick of all beauracracy, red tape and bean counting that is affecting his job.

Forgotten Prayers
A girl in a dungeon with a pet rat

Hellhound Rescue
Some guy is selling his troublesome dog

Blue Moon
An ageing female werewolf is depressed with the available dating opportunities but her recent divorce is about to reach even worse heights.

I had previously downloaded another of Drayden's collections, I don't know if I'll bother reading it. There's plenty of free/cheap short stories on Kindle, most of them are good, don't be put off if this is one of your first unknown author short story Kindle experiences. Most will be good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very short twisted tales 16 July 2011
By Dragon Lady Ness-a - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These four stories are indeed very short, but will appeal to fans of the macabre. Each story does have a twist of some kind, but there isn't a lot of depth to them. If you are looking for brief entertainment, they are okay. But I'm glad that this was free when I downloaded it.
