HASH(0x9a8154d4) out of 5 stars palate pleasing recipes that the whole family will like 28 Aug. 2012

June Kessler is known for creating great tasting recipes that appeal to the entire family, including picky eaters. This "mini" cookbook does just that. It has 23 recipes that range from soups and stews to casseroles and pasta salads. Many recipes are for one dish meals that only take an hour or less to prepare. These are dishes that will appeal to families time and time again. There is an interative table of contents. All in all, this cookbook is a bargain at 99¢.

HASH(0x9baf1b4c) out of 5 stars Use carefully and don't pay much 19 Dec. 2012

From the book's description: "...Well this is not a health book but it is important to blend your diet with nutrition and also satisfying our cravings, and keeping our meal times healthy, nutritious and interesting for our kids. When or diet is nutritious. Junk food is ok on occasion like visits to fast food restaurants. Play day at a theme park. Party's etc. Remember to keep it interesting for your kids. Our Kids need burger fries and candy some times. Be in the routine of a healthy meal every weeknight, and it will make a difference, and also spending family time together is priceless." I certainly agree that spending family time together is priceless (and that sitting together at the dinner table is a wholesome way to do it) but "our kids need burger fries and candy some times"? Really?

Do be careful in following the recipes, in case the same lack of editing skill applies to the recipes and instructions as it does to the book's description/introduction (read the whole thing!) - for instance, they are inconsistent in style (sometimes "1-teaspoon" but other times "1 teaspoon" within the same recipe... :/), sometimes telling you to follow package directions on how to cook the pasta and other times telling you to boil it in a large saucepan. Quantities are questionable: 4 ounces of dry spaghetti for 4 cups of eggplant and chicken? As the recipe doesn't advise how many portions it serves, it's hard to know the intention.

The garlic sauce recipe is s stick of butter, a little garlic ("3 or 4 cloves"), and salt & pepper-- if part of the focus is health, why not olive oil, which is much healthier than butter and perfectly delicious with garlic? Healthy Chicken Pasta uses 1 1/2 Tablespoons of sugar-- ouch! Chicken Noodle Soup calls for a 48 ounce can of chicken broth and then a pound of boneless chicken breasts... why not buy a whole chicken and make stock from the bones? It also calls for 1/4 cup of soy sauce, lime juice (later referred to as lime zest), and chili sauce; it may be a nice soup but a more descriptive title might be helpful. There's a recipe for "Spaghetti Roll-Ups" that contains no spaghetti (it uses manicotti!) and "Creamy Cheddar Cheese Soup" is 2 cans of cheddar cheese soup with milk, vegetables, and pasta shells added.

At the same time, there are a few recipes where I think, "hmm, that sounds interesting," and I plan to use the recipe as a jumping-off place so, if the price is low enough (free or 99 cents), you may find a few recipes worth your time and pleasing to your palate.

HASH(0x9baf1a50) out of 5 stars easy to follow recipes 17 Oct. 2012

For each recipe we tried, the cooking times were exact. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow, and the pictures were helpful. Overall, I highly recommend this cookbook. I don't know too many families that aren't looking for a way to get good food on the table quicker in the evenings, and this certainly holds true to that ideal. This will be a cookbook that stays in my Kindle for quite some time.

I don't use something as soon as it hits my hands. Too early for any type of review but you're continuously pestered until you do.
