I`m listening to this great album as I type and I just have to shout from some kind of rooftop about this remarkable band.
My mate Paul put me on to the Delboys and I can`t thank him enough. If Change Everything is their most utterly perfect creation - is it? I`m not sure when I`m listening to Twisted - then this is the more varied, with Justin Currie`s soulful vocals given more room to roam. I haven`t been so enamoured of a group`s singer since coming late to the peerless Squeeze and the glorious voice of Glenn Tilbrook,
or Paul Buchanan of The Blue Nile, or Paul Carrack at his best. Currie sings with unaffectedly controlled passion and is heard at his best here - well, on every track really, but try Tell Her This or Being Somebody Else. What a tremendous singer he is. He really SINGS!
The rest of the band are wonderful too - the guitar solo on Crashing Down is a classic.
I have three albums by Del A (the other being the superb Waking Hours) and they are three of the finest rock CDs in my collection, with not one dud track among them. If they remind me of anyone it`s a more immediate & upfront Teenage Fanclub. Like that excellent band they should be much better known & lauded.
Get this album, play it loud as you can, marvel, then play it again...
Immaculate.
