Geoffrey Farthing was absolutely brilliant! He explains all the basic concepts within Theosophy is a way that I can understand and feel then able to go back to the Ancient Wisdom in the Secret Doctrine, written in a more antiquated way, but understand it better.
To anyone who is a serious student of Theosophy, but just beginning this vast topic, I would highly recommend reading Deity, Cosmos and Man before anything else. There aren't many teachers around now who have such a grasp of the Truth and Geoffrey was certainly one such teacher.

Further, by emphasizing the important distinction between them, it shows how the personality, when unrestrained, tends to be entirely self-concerned, creating for itself a condition of psychological isolation from the rest of humanity. The Individuality, on the other hand, is rooted in the Unity, of which it is a direct expression. As we become increasingly responsive to this Individuality, it exercises a unifying influence in our lives, enabling us to recognize that identity of nature which makes of all living things one universal Brotherhood.--- from book's back cover
