Product Description

New York Times bestselling author Caroline Myss draws from her years as a medical intuitive to show that healing is not only physical; it is also a mystical phenomenon that transcends reason.

Inspired by ordinary people who overcame a wide array of physical and psychological ailments - from rheumatoid arthritis to cancer - Caroline dove into the works of the great mystics to gain a deeper understanding of healing's spiritual underpinnings. Based on these studies, she demonstrates how conventional and holistic medicine often fall short in times of need. Both systems rely upon a logical approach to curing illness when there is nothing reasonable about the emotional, psychological or spiritual influences behind any ailment.

Integral to this mystical healing approach is the engagement of the soul, which we experience through exploring our seven shadow passions, building an empowered inner self around our seven inherent graces, and learning how to work with the mystical laws that govern it. This knowledge holds the key to understanding what it means to defy gravity and break through the boundaries of ordinary thought to live fearlessly.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but Caroline Myss has shown yet again that no matter how far we feel we have come in terms of personal and spiritual development, there is always a fresh way to look at life issues. In this amazing book, she shares numerous life changing insights while exploring our human obsession with reason and logic, and how that can block our natural healing potential. With amazing clarity she shows how divine 'grace' is the healing power we truly seek, and she demystifies the process of accepting our dark side, which is a key factor in self acceptance and healing. I would recommend this book to anyone who may feel disillusioned with life, who may have followed numerous methods of healing with little success. This is a book, to open your eyes, get you back to basics and renew your connection to the Divine presence that is within all of us.

In 'Defy Gravity', Myss has evolved the vision that she first presented in 'Entering the Castle' - that there is a new calling today to become a 'mystic outside of the monastery', a vessel for the divine here on earth. This time around, Myss explores in more detail the temptations and joys of the interior life, looking at what she calls the 'seven dark passions' and 'seven graces' (presented within the framework of the chakra system), offering advice for how these forces manifest in modern lives.

I enjoyed this book more than 'Entering the Castle' - it's shorter and more 'to the point' and the message has matured - it reads like Myss is more sure of what she wants to say this time around. I found this book inspiring and it certainly got me thinking. I think there is a lot of wisdom on offer here, but that it is more readily understood within the framework of a spiritual tradition - it doesn't 'stand alone', as such.
