First of all I didn't order this from Amazon. I found the microphone bundle £20 cheaper than Amazon was selling it, at the time. I let them know that and they promptly reduced the price. Unfortunately I had already ordered it from elsewhere and TEN days later it arrived. Being an Amazon fan I'm not used to that. I wasn't at all happy. Now to the game. Pros: Great track list. Really great, from Public Enemy to Dr Dre to N Dubz. It's a little puzzling that so far there isn't any Eminem or Jay-Z. As Juicy by Notorious B.I.G. is available though it's all good. The game really seems responsive to your timing and your lyrical accuracy. On a song you actually know you can spit bars with the best of them. The community, albeit early doors, is a well developed extension to the game that lets you upload videos, taken by the Kinect or Live Vision camera, review other's videos and battle others online. This feature, once fully fleshed out, will become one of the key points to the game as everyone these days seems to believe they're the next Tupac, even if they are more like Flava Flav. Battle mode and Duet mode are great fun. Nothing beats getting a lot of people together and battling for the title. There is already downloadable content available priced at 160 Microsoft points a song. Cons: There is an awful lot of singing that you have to do. This is a hip hop themed game and I have no idea why when performing Juicy for instance I have to sing the chorus. I have a very deep voice AND if I'm honest I cannot sing a single note. Why does a hip hop game penalise me for not singing in the same pitch as a woman? I thought to myself when I bought the game no more getting wiped out at Lips. Finally something for the hip hop heads, only to lose on certain tracks to people who can't rap, don't know the words but who can sing. Very frustrating. However this isn't the major problem with the game to date. The lyrics on the songs are censored. It sounds like such a minor thing. It really isn't. If you know the uncensored version then the game will not penalise you for rapping that version. However the accompanying lyrics will generally go blank, which as everyone I know who has played the game agrees, throws of your timing. If however you DO NOT know the song, well then forget it. A whole verse can be reduced to .... .... .... leg .... .... .... money .... .... What you're supposed to do there is anybody's guess. Some songs are more mutilated than others. I get Money by 50 Cent being the worse victim I have found so far.
Overall a great game. Some minor tweaks and it could have been a perfect one.
I bought this game for my wife and she really likes it. She says it has a good song list and there are songs on there which she doesn't know which is always good for a challenge. It's not straight forward as to how to progress but it's not that difficult to figure out. Overall it's cool and have enjoyed playing it.
