If you like the work of just about any artist on the Definitive Jux labelthen, yes, you'll like this. The tracks are a pretty good mix betweenrelatively "regular" sounding hip-hop like the C-Rayz Walz and 4th Pyramidtracks, and the more left field styles of Carnage and El-P. As is oftenthe case with this label, the music mangaes to more often than not treadthe right line between being original and being listenable (or evendanceable at times...). Standouts for me include the El-P and Camu Taocollaboration and the Aesop Rock tracks. I was never particually keen onAesop before, but the tracks on this compilation work well. After just afew listens I would have to say there are no tracks that stand out asbeing as impressive as some on the earlier "Definitive Jux Presents" volsone and two (Stepfather Factory, for instance), but this is by no means adissapointing collection. This is particually true when one considers thefact that you get a bonus DVD this time around. The videos are a bit hitand miss in terms of quality, but are entertaining nonetheless and make aninteresting enough edition to the Def Jux catalogue. Not as immediate asthe previous volumes, perhaps, but for the money it costs, there's reallyno reason not to buy this if you are a fan of interesting hip-hop.
