I was expecting this to be a self-help/psychology text that would offer insightful, penetrating explanations into the causes of loneliness and then offer the reader some robust, practical advice to get them out of this particularly sticky bind. This appeared to be what the synopsis of the book was offering. I was also too easily fooled by the "Dr." before the author's name. Dr. Burgess is actually a Doctor of Divinity and his book is Christian evangelicism masquarading as self-help. To be fair the book isn't especially zealous but I found nothing of any practical use in it. The answer to the loneliness problem invariably being: get closer to Jesus. I have nothing against people getting closer to Jesus, if that's what they want but this is not the advice I was hoping for, or the advice I was led to believe I'd be given - the author/publisher not being upfront about their intentions. A disapointing purchase that I promptly returned.
