Amazon.co.uk Review

Having gradually moved away from their trad Irish roots with their second album It's About Time, Sin É's major label debut finds them blossoming into a full-on jazz-funk folk marvel. Instrumentally, those roots are still showing through the whistles and pipes of James O'Grady and Gerry Diver's fiddle, the strength being that the band place them within a variety of different contexts. Indeed, it's an indication of how far the band have come that the only comparatively weak moments come when they play the straight Irish card. Far more effective are the journeys into other sounds and rhythms, such as the tabla led "Serial Transparencies", the disco beat of "Something Seven" or the frequent touches of jazz piano and percussion. Vocalist Taz, meanwhile, contributes a performance that towers above her contemporaries--finding herself most at home on the pop feel of "Will Your Love" and "Wrap Me", although the French ballad "Rossignolet" is delivered with ease. And unlike some who have gone before, Sin É have harnessed technology rather than being tied to it--the mix of grooves, strings and samples on "Saoirse" is perhaps the album's finest moment. --Phil Udell

its hard to pidgeon hole sin e, as they are a band who can quite easily transverse through irish traditional music to music that would not sound out of place on a cafe del mar album.
deep water drop off for me is probably their best album,as all the different styles seem to seemlessly fit together on this album, with the stand out tracks being wrap me, saoirse and something seven.
deep water dropoff, is an album definateley in the froots mode of style, as they have taken traditional irish music and have musically stretched the tunes with the aid of their musical abilities and love of technology. if you like afro celt sound system, give this album a listen, i don't think you will be disappointed.

An impossible, but possible, mix 8 Mar 2000

This is a record you should listen carefully. Based on irish traditional instruments (basically the uilleann pipe) with the addition of saxes, pianos, drums, etc., it's an incredible mix of folk, jazz, soul, funk, pop, and etcéteras, perfectly interpreted. Don't let this cd go away.

What an amazing blend of Irish Trad and, well...Jazz. Sound strange? Strangely, it works...really well! I love the use of pipes and sax, fiddle and bass, trap and darabouka. Saddly, the band is no more after BMG bought their label then droped 'em. Way to go corporate America. If anyone knows how to get Sin e's previous albums (more traditionally based celtic stuff)please do post what you know.
