This game is really tedious, with many inherent programming problems.
The biggest, should you intend to share this game with another person, is that although it advertises that it's a multi-player game, this is only the case in "party mode" where you just sing a single song. You CANNOT play the actual X factor game against your friends, indeed even worse than that you can't even play in rotation, you must complete the one person's X factor career before you can start anyone else. My husband has had to sit by while I complete the entire game before he can sing a single note.
Each judge only seems to have 2 different comments programmed in, so you will quickly get tired of them saying "I like you, but I'm not crazy about your singing voice" cos that is what you will hear all the time.
You have to skip through absolutely *loads* of X Factor-esque footage. OK I guess if you want to have the "experience" but for most people it's just how soon can I press the X key to make this guy shut up so I can sing.
There are 2 different levels, but you must complete the game on the standard level first. I am now anxious in case I do not win, because it's practically unplayable on the basic level, given that you barely have to show up to the mic to get voted through. Seriously, there are songs on there I have never even heard of and I can get through and even win live shows based on fumbling and bumbling my way through them.
You cannot skip out of a rehearsal, once you are in you are in. If you just want to remind yourself how the song goes (you cannot listen to them any other way but rehearsal) then you are stuck with the whole song, which can be up to about 4 minutes. There are a pre-defined number of rehearsals permitted for each song, so if you are allocated a song you've never heard as a compulsory song then good luck to you. Not that it's actually possible to get voted off even if you just dum de dum all the way through, so maybe that doesn't matter.
You cannot add extra songs, so even for a single X Factor career you will need to repeat songs (3 starting rounds then 7 live shows, many of which require you to sing 3 songs, only 28 songs altogether). You don't even unlock songs, you unlock additional outfits. I don't think it makes any difference to your popularity whether you change your outfits or not, it's not that clear. You can view your popularity and fan pages, but really they are just nonsense made-up letters that tell you nothing about what they do or don't like about you.
We had hoped this would be a game for my husband and I to enjoy together, but instead we have a game I am stuck with having to keep playing to the end so he can have his term, because if I abandon my 'career' then I will not unlock the Superstar mode, which might actually require you to sing on the notes. How's about that then?
Zero stars would have been more appropriate, quite honestly. Sadly ours is in a box complete with mic and we do want to keep the mic so no return, no second hand resale. It's a total dud.
