Product Description

CD Description
Peter Murphy's 1989 solo album gained him an even wider audience. Aided by the boom in alternative radio outlets, Murphy reached a demographic too young to remember his old band, Bauhaus. Luckily, this exposure was not wasted, as DEEP delivers the goods.
Continuing in Murphy's usual dramatic andmelodic style, "Marlene Dietrich's Favorite Poem" provides DEEP with a new romantic flair. Surprisingly radio-friendly,"Cuts You Up" and "A Strange Kind of Love" rival the pop genius of "Indigo Eyes". There are some harder tracks here, too--"The Line Between the Devil's Teeth" howls and screeches in Bauhaus style, while "Roll Call" and its "Reprise" show Murphy experimenting with tribal house beats and gothic/eastern samples. Peter Murphy's strongest solo effort to date, DEEP delivers a fix for fans of both old and new style Peter Murphy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grown up goth, 6 Feb 2004
By Richard Kelly (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Peter Murphy left Bauhaus in 1983 and has quitely been plugging away producing albums.

This is one of his more goth/melancholy albums, but that is not to say that it doesn't have it's moments of splendour.

His voice is in great form, and the hundred men play with passion. The album starts off slowly and builds to a crescendo with It Cuts You Up.

A good album, but it's not Cascade....

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Murphy grows up..., 16 Nov 2006
This album is excellent. The song writing and arrangements are amazing. Murphy's lyrics are enigmatic and beautiful...the man's a true poet.
I only wish that Beggar's Banquet would remaster and re-release Deep, Love Hysteria, and Holy Smoke. They were mixed way to thin like a lot of albums from the late 80s and early 90s.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bauhaus were a great band. This isn't Bauhaus, 15 Dec 2002
By Matt (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews
it's a fine album though, kind of melancholy and a good bit more sophisticated than the 'haus were. presumably this being a solo affair he felt free to get away from the horror-movie look and feel. I hear he lives in Turkey now.

if you listened to Bauhaus a lot in the old days, but you've grown up and calmed down since then - give this a listen
