4.0 out of 5 stars More an "Ambient Experience" than a DVD. 13 April 2011
By Bruce TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE

I think you have to realise that this has been created as "Filmic Art" - there is no attempt at a narrative or even to make this a documentary film.

The creators are quite clear in the documentation that this is an "ambient entertainment" and a way to turn your flat TV screen, into a deep ocean environment.

So everything is slow and gentle - the music has been specially created for this and is pretty good but may not be to everybody's tastes. It is well-recorded and the surround sound nature of soundtrack, with very low "sub-bass", gives a real feel of being a long way down in the deep ocean.

In many ways this is a test disc that shows how well your surround sound system and 3D TV works. I was very impressed with the quality of the pictures and the music/ambient sound - it was almost like a meditation, slowing you down to the pace of the ocean.

If you are looking for excitement and action - this is not for you!! I applaud the creators of this for a brave attempt to create a new kind of 3D art and in trying to bring the feeling of the Deep Ocean to our living rooms.

I wouldn't give this 5 stars as I am not sure how often I would watch this - it's like a demonstration of what you can do and as such it is impressive while not being something you would want to come back to again and again.

It's more like a video painting and I think you need to decide whether you want such a thing - it's great for what it is, but you may not feel the need for such a thing and many people will be disappointed if they have not read and understood this. But that's not the fault of the creators of this disc and I don't think they should be criticised for trying to create something different.

3.0 out of 5 stars Showoff 3D 13 April 2011
Great 3D with amazing depths in some parts. But, to be honest, this is more like an ambient aquarium-film with a deep ocean theme (although very professionally made with text-info about some cool species). I think I'll mostly use the 2D-version from now on as some sort of an ambient backdrop and use the 3D-version to impress friends and family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good screen-saver for your HDTV 23 April 2012

I've got to say that this is pretty cool 3D Blu-ray. I have most of the available ones and this is not the best one, but for the price it is definitely worth it. It makes for a really cool 3D-show-off. It is also a great 2D screen-saver to have playing in the background when you have guests over - the Hairy Angler is a definite topic for conversation:)

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very good
This is not a film !!! It is an aquarium of deep sea creatures. These creatures aren't real, but computer generated. The 3D effects are pointless. Read more
