4.0 out of 5 stars Forgotten classics, 8 Sep 2006
By Christopher Howland "Chris H" (Derby UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Argent were never a really popular band. One or two memorable singles during the seventies, but not a band to set the masses bopping. The band was a tale of two parts, prog rock numbers by Rod Argent/Chris White - dominated by Rod Argents virtuoso keyboard meanderings and Russ Ballard's harder edged rock as well as some memorable ballads. Their strength was that they complemented each other well. Their weakness was that whilst critically acclaimed, they never really sold enough copies.

Now that their catalogue is out on CD we can all do something to correct this and In Deep and Nexus are as good a place to start as anything. Great stuff - better late than never

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost Classics Found!, 24 Jun 2008
Together in one package - Argent's last two good albums, after which Russ Ballard jumped ship and the SS Argent floundered on before finally sinking. Ignore the review citing poor mastering, not a bit of it. The sound quality is excellent, rich, full and with no surface noise. In fact the mastering is superior to the original vinyl (Epic were always poor pressings in my experience). Don' miss out on these lost classics and grab a copy before it's out of print agagin for another few years!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Mastering, 24 Nov 2005
By L. J. Fisher "lesjfisher" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In Deep by Argent is a brillient album, I had the original on vinyl in 1974, having just purchased this CD version and listened to it,the sound quality is appalling, this so called mastering sounds like it was copied direcly from a vinyl version of of the album, I could not believe I was actually hearing surface noise just like a poor vinyl version.
Very dissapointed!

These 2 albums represent Argent at their best. It was with both "In Deep" and "Nexxus" that Argent were really flying. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Excellent albums, shoddy mastering
I have to comment on the apparent disagreement about the mastering quality of this double album. I ordered it recently because I very much wanted these albums in CD form, and... Read more
