A tale of love, life, laughter and tragedy, with some smuggling thrown in, set amongst the people living near the tin and copper mines of St. Just, Cornwall, in the mid 19th Century. 5.0 out of 5 stars Cornish Tin Mining St Just 3 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
Surprised to find a novel about Cornwall by RM Ballantyne. Enjoyed reading it very much & felt it conveyed what it was like in the tin mines at the end of Cornwall around St Just & out under the sea in the 19th century. It conveyed the hardships families endured, their strong Methodist faith but didn't shy away from writing about smuggling as a way of supplementing their income.

Rapid delivery at Christmas time. A very enlightening book about Cornish mining. It would have been very interesting to have had a more detailed map of where some of the mines are. How about adit mines?
