Coonts: I’ve written a plot on the back of a beer-mat.
Publisher: Fantastic, we will give it to someone else to write, but put your name on the cover so people think it is you! We will make a mint.
Punter (me): Ooh a new Coonts book, I’ll buy that!…….
This is horrible. Based on a Coonts premise but written by Jim DeFelice, this is very weak. The idea is that a high tech element of the NSA are fighting the bad guys with cutting edge technology supported by sharp young agents in the field. It doesn’t work, partly because the writing is poor, but also because the blend of technology and very irritating characters do not gel.
There is a weak plot about Russia and a potential assassination, but long before the end you don’t care any more. Avoid.
