What an enchanting book this is. For the keen hill-walker, it will take you into areas in the Cairngorms and Deeside that perhaps you may never have considered by only reading guidebooks. Furthermore, it provides an enjoyable history lesson of our forebears, especially the guid folk fae the N-East Scotland. It's incredible to believe that our 21st Century, technologically advanced but culturally bereft society was so different from our forefathers from the 1900s. So much has changed in 100 years and while this books highlights the immense fortitude that many of those who lived off the land had to endure, it also reveals that the simple pleasures were indeed the best. There are salient lessons and folklore here, which I fear may never truly be appreciated. Murray deserves great credit for so comprehensively detailing the lives of our Deeside and Cairngorm ancestry. It is a must read.
