3.0 out of 5 stars A Well-Written X-Tale, 27 Oct 2006
David Hine is a noted indie-comics writer that Marvel Comics managed to snag a short while ago. He wrote some extremely disturbing comics, and continues the trend until this day.
This mini-series followed the mega-summer-cross-over-spectacular event that was House of M. The remaining, known, powered mutants are offered sanctuary in the sentinel-guarded Xavier Institute, home of the X-Men. However, it is soon revealed that the "sanctuary" is really just a way for the US government to imprison all of the mutants they could find.
The government's plan is going swimmingly, until an unexpected mutant shows up...
Hine manages to throw in a lot of nice references to continuity for X-fans, and does what he can with such a large cast. 198 mutants is a lot to handle.
While I've never been a huge fan of the convuluted continuity of the X-Men, I am a big fan of David Hine's writing. It's an odd mix, since Hine is better suited to smaller stories. I'm going to have to say that it's far from perfect, since it's such a difficult story to write, but it's still enjoyable.
A must for those who want to see what happened to their favourite mutants.

2.0 out of 5 stars David Hine should be kept away from this sort of thing, 23 Jan 2008

Nice ideas but the execution leaves a lot to be desired and it ignores much of the history of the masses of characters shown here. The script is the worst part, loads of bad lines herein.

4.0 out of 5 stars the 198!, 31 Jul 2008
By Ne0 Ven0m (London, England) - See all my reviews
this is the final book in the decimation storyline...and its a rly great story i had no idea what i was expecting when i was going to read this book but it introduced me to some fantastic characters that made me smile.

M-Day was a bad day for so many mutants however it allowed other to come to the foreground this is a great story and again i loved the characters they used...a very eerie ending but cool at the same time.

I think you don't need too much of a knowledge of the rest of the decimation stuff jus the basics with this book as its soo self contained!

a gd read and must if uve read the other decimation books.
