Superb 18 April 2006
Format:Paperback
Picked up this book this morning from my grandmothers book shelves and have literally just finished it. Couldn't take my eyes away all day. Great way to pass a boring bank holiday.

The book itself is very clever and every character fails not to capture your imagination and with a plot so intriguing you cant help but carry on reading. Dick Francis' love of racehorses provides the perfect passion for a backdrop of a great story and his introduction of new subjects such as architecture provide a slight twist on other Dick Francis books.

With a racecourse that looks like its on its last legs and a family so annoyingly middle class to the point at some places in the book you just want to take the situation into your own hands, it takes a good natured builder/architect to maintain the balance and sort out everyones duties whilst taking into account his own. Along the way individual plots thicken and characters are sussed but with almost every dicovery comes a twist.

The book is a fascinating read, especially if you enjoy the subjects of property development and horse racing and will keep you pleasantly occupied to the point of being unsociable for a good few chapters. I would recommend it to anyone with an intrest in crime fiction. Enjoy!

Lee Morris is a hero who bucks the Dick Francis trend for he is married wtih six sons. The classic Francis hero is single, thus frequently allowing for a love interest to develop during the book. Morris is a builder and architect. He finds himself drawn in to the complex dynamics of the Stratton family who have differing views on how they should move forward with the family owned Stratton Park Racecourse. Lee is drawn into their web by default - a family connection through his mother meaning that he too is a part-owner. The plot soon speeds up, creating a beautifully crafted crime thriller containing tension, drama, intrigue and emotional intelligence.
