Presented in a new High-Definition restoration. Pasolini's visual notes for an unrealised film project, Notes for an African Oresteria, is also included here, fully restored to High-Definition by Cineteca di Bologna.

audio in italianodal decameron (1349-53) di g. boccaccio pasolini ha tratto 7 novelle, tutte ambientate a napoli e dintorni; le ultime sono intercalate dalla storia di un allievo di giotto (lo stesso pasolini) che deve affrescare le pareti della chiesa di santa chiara. della cosiddetta trilogia della vita (il decameron, i racconti di canterbury, il fiore delle mille e una notte), e' il film piu' trascinante, ilare e lieto. come gli altri due, ha al centro l'esaltazione di una felicita' e di una vitalita' che e' soprattutto sesso idealizzate e astoriche in cui un'incombente presenza di morte ricorda, secondo moduli di tradizione decadentistica, che la conciliazione e' impossibile. percio' c'e' chi (l. miccicche') collegando i tre film a salo' o le 120 giornate di sodoma (1975) ha parlato di tetralogia della morte. orso d'argento al festival di berlino, fonte in italia di roventi polemiche (a destra per le offese al comune sentimento del pudore, a sinistra per il suo disimpegno ideologico), incasso' sul mercato italiano piu' di 4 miliardi, cifra da primato, scatenando un'orda di imitazioni che costituirono un filone a parte.
