Unsure which decade to go for when buying a nostalgia collection? Well, look no further as
Decades rounds up all that was great about three major decades in pop music--the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. And while you could complain for hours about the glaring omissions (no Beatles, no Abba and no Wham! for instance), the compilers have done a good job, including some truly classic tracks. From the 60s there are rock & roll classics from The Kinks ("All Day and All Of The Night") and the Swinging Blue Jeans ("The Hippy Hippy Shake"), while the 70s serve up perennial favourites "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel and Blondie's "Heart Of Glass". The 80s offer up more of an interesting contrast with the bright breezy glamour pop of Duran Duran ("Wild Boys") and Frankie Goes To Hollywood ("Two Tribes") starkly juxtaposed with the bleak urban sound of The Specials "Ghost Town".
Decades manages to act as both a great historical document for fans of the British charts as well as a great introduction to popular music for anyone born after all the fuss had died down. --
