Product Description

Feted by many glam-trash fans as being second only to the New York Dolls, Hanoi Rocks were a telling influence on the glitzy US metal of Guns 'N' Roses and Motley Crue, as well as later glam prime movers Rachel Stamp and Backyard Babies. Certainly, these London-based Finns put raw power and exuberant excess back on the agenda after the dowdy days of post-punk. Decadent, Dangerous, Delicious, a 2-CD, 31-track anthology, is a collection of the best from their first five albums, plus a scattering of oddities. Among the rarities are two tracks from their very first studio session, and a calypso version of live favourite "Malibu Beach" sung by their drummer Razzle, whose untimely death in a car crash caused the band's eventual split. Despite lacking anything from their final album Two Steps From The Move (recorded for CBS and unavailable for inclusion), this is still a fine showcase for their moving mix of sleazy blues, sweet pop and caustic, anthemic rock & roll. A genuine celebration of Hanoi Rocks has been a long time coming; it's more than well-deserved. --Dominic Wills

The latest compliation form Finland's finest band, from the streets of helsinki, in the late 70's, with the best looking singer ever, and the surperb guitarist and songwriter Andy Mccoy. This is the best place to start if you have never listened to hanoi before, some of the greatest chorus's in music history! Hanoi Rocks would off, should have been one of the greatest rock bands ever, if it wasn't for the death of the drummer Razzle, with such admirers as guns n' roses, bon jovi etc... long live the legacy!

A truely delicious, debauched, no-holes barred, barrage of Hanoi's finest rock anthems. This 2-CD compilation is a 'must have'. From classics such as Tragedy, 11th Street Kidz and Malibu Beach to the biographical Love's An Injection and Dead By Xmas. Anthology breezes in, knocks you over and leaves you wanting more. A good starting point or welcome addition to any Hanoi collection. Crank up your stereo, get out the glitter and be blown away by Finland's finest. The Godfathers Of Glam are back in town!

I used to see pictures and read interviews with Hanoi back in the days of Sounds music paper in the 80's.I always thought they had a good look and Michael Monroe had the hair I always wanted.Maybe they are a good band I thought but I didn't know anyone who had any of their stuff and went back to my post-punk,electro-pop and goth records.Somehow, shamefully,it has taken me until now to get a Hanoi album! Finally I know for sure they are a great band and this is a brilliant place to start with tracks of their first four albums from 1981-83 and a couple of earlier 1980 tracks.

6 for the band, 4 for the compilation... that gives 5 stars. 26 Sept. 2000

The band and their music are showcased lovingly on this compilation. I have only two gripes about this double CD: first of all, greater care should have been put into the finished product, I find it unacceptable to misspell song titles (Tragedy is spelled Tragdey in the song lists). Secondly, as there are no songs whatsoever from their only major label album (Two steps from the Move, 1984, CBS), it cannot lay claim to the title of the definitive Hanoi Rocks collection.
Buy this in addition to "2 steps" and you have a 3-CD "True" best of set of Hanoi music.

Hanoi Rocks every Morning 1 Aug. 2000

Ask Guns-N-Roses who influenced them most. Ask most of those from "the scene" who was nominated the "most likely to succeed", and ask others who had a hand in creating the trashy, big hair late eighties, and most people will say Hanoi Rocks. I came upon this group mostly by accident. Were any of them great musicians; great song writers; or even great show men...unfortunately no!, But there was a certain glam rock/Punk Rock appeal that these guys had that no one else tapped into quite as adeptly. Their soft songs are not sweet, nor are they saccarhine (sic?) but they have this eery quality about them that makes them feel painful. Some of their Beach Boys go punk are very interesting cohesions. "Dead By Christmas" is also one of the greatest songs ever written. "Cafe Avenue," "Motorvatin'," and "'Round the Bend," are the best of the bunch, but like unusual bands Hanoi Rocks' soul was made in between the hits. They were my favorite band for a long time, and I envy all of you who have never heard of this band of incredible chemistry. They belong in the upper echelon of the music chain.

Decadent, Dangerous, Delicious: gold! 21 Oct. 2005
By J. Holmes - Published on
Format: Audio CD
sadly, Hanoi Rocks always seemed to be standing on the side, watching as the bands who they influenced skyrocketed to stardom. bands like Poison, Motley Crue, and Guns N' Roses. but frankly, Hanoi Rocks contains alot more charm and better songs than any of those bands. fusing the best elements of glam, blues, pop, and some strong dub/reggae undertones (mostly in some of the basslines used in a few of their songs); Hanoi Rocks forged a back catalogue of essential and highly influential albums. recommended listening for fans of T.Rex, The New York Dolls, and The Clash. this 2cd set is a collection of their best songs and it's great from start to finish. i am curious to know why no songs were taken from the "Two Steps From The Move", but i can only assume that their major label would not allow any tracks of that record to be issued with this release. oh well...the music that is presented here on this sprawling set is more than enough to openly diplay the creative talent and sheer genius of this impressive band. get it and play it loud!

Newbie to Hanoi Rocks 18 July 2013

Like all Hanoi Rocks CD's, this one is near impossible to find anywhere at a low price, but is worth getting for the $20 I paid for it. This double set has a ton of songs on it, 31 to be exact so this maybe the only Hanoi Rocks release you ever need. I wouldn't call this Glam Metal, more like Glam Rock/Hard Rock. I mean these guys are more Bon Jovi then Motley Crue/Ratt in heaviness. I'm not sure who to compare this to, kinda has a Clash vibe in some ways. I don't see Hanoi Rocks being a favorite band of mine, they certainly can't compare to Europe who seemed to have much more talent and better production. Speaking of production, most of the material is thinly produced and sounds low budget, that is probably the biggest drawback.
