Well, being a huge Glassjaw fan I just had to check out what Head Automatica were all about. And there's two words to describe them, funky beats. The blend of funky/dance/hip hop beats with rock elements is unique and interesting and Palumbo's voice sounds perfect over the top. There's even a little help from Tim Armstrong on the track 'Dance Party Plus'. 'Beating Heart Baby' and 'Plese Please Please (young hollywood) are personal favourites but this album is full of amazing tracks! This could have failed quite easily as a side project but I'm happy to say that in my eyes (and ears), It's pure geneius!

After hearing that Head Automatica featured Daryl Palumbo of glassjaw and hearing the amazing 'beating heart baby' I had to buy this album. As other reviews have said this is nothing like glassjaw and is more funk and less hardcore. This makes a change from all those generic emo/hardcore bands out there and will hopefully broaden peoples taste in music.
However something different doesn't always mean something good, but this really is different and it really is good. The pace of the album varies keeping it exciting and the lyrics are extremley catchy along with the beats which wouldn't sound out of place on an N.E.R.D album. Palumbo is as good as ever and it is refreshing to hear him with a completely different style. It is also good to hear him with Tim Armstrong on 'Dance party plus' as they both have such different voices.
This album really does deserve five stars and is the best album i have bought for a while.

head automatica are the brainchild of glassjaw vocalist daryl palumbo,he does vocals here as well, and while glassjaw can be classicfied as post hardcore or screamcore head automatica play disco rock, they came about as daryl has an interest in disco and britpop and felt he couldnt combine that with glassjaw so with the help of some friends head automatica came to be.
The band mix electronica with hip hop beats, funk and at times its very boggie, the structure of the bass and drums keep the feet going mad,and there are crazy organs and the guitars keep in line with rock and punk at times but this album doesnt want to tip its toes into metal although at times the guitars do rock like the proverbial.
Those who know glassjaw know that daryl has a corking voice, almost distinctive at times, here daryl works with his clean vocals and has a voice that is impossible not to warm too,his style suits the style of the music and thats why this works.
The album opens with the track 'at the speed of a yellow bullet' and right away you will have a sense that this will be a fun album and with the next two storming tracks, least of all 'beating heart baby' which once you hear you will never forget, all that is proved. The album never takes itself too seriously but all the while has the word infectiuos stamped throughout,'the razor' and 'disco party plus' came the standards from falling but like the majority of albums there is the odd wasted moment and here it happens on one song which doesnt have the quality of what else can be found here but thats a small dip in form, but for that you get ten tracks that are just great, and i mean that, for those that think panic at the disco are the kings at this then you better think again, this is the business.
