in terms of the original recordings, some are noticeably different whereas some are merely rough around the edges. It takes a keen ear to spot the difference between the original recordings and the finished "hits" on songs such as Embrace's "All You Good Good People", whereas songs from Placebo and Easyworld are obviously different. The Bluetones' offering of an early "Bluetonic" even retains its original name ("No. 11").
as well as well known artists, there are also fairly new acts in the Fierce Panda's catalogue. Winnebago Deal, Death Cab For Cutie, Keane and Bright Eyes all make an appearance here.
of course, if you're not into indie music, you'd be insane to buy this compilation as even though it ranges from the heavier end of the spectrum (3 Colours Red - This Is My Hollywood) to the slow meanderings of a young Coldplay, it's still all guitar-based. overall though, i'd recommend this album to anyone who has ever bought anything from either Fierce Panda or one of the bands involved.
truly, truly remarkable.
