Product Description

Product Description

The "Popular Mechanics" original article about 9/11 has been downloaded more than 850,000 times, and has had 1.8 million hits. When the March 2005 article originally appeared there was a firestorm of publicity, the same level of attention is expected for the book. This publication is timed to coincide with the 5th anniversary of 9/11. It is a groundbreaking, scientific analysis of 9/11 conspiracy theories. These, first emerged while the wreckage was still smouldering and today, hundreds of books and thousands of web pages are devoted to the idea that the U.S. government encouraged, permitted or actually carried out the attacks. However, an in-depth investigation by "Popular Mechanics" definitively proves that the evidence most often cited by conspiracy theorists is inaccurate, misinterpreted or false. "Debunking 9/11 Myths" is a fascinating investigation from leading experts in all the relevant fields and includes the 20 most prominent and persistent claims underlying the conspiracy theories.

About the Author

David Dunbar is executive editor of Popular Mechanics and led the production of the groundbreaking cover story debunking the conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11. Brad Reagan is a contributing editor to Popular Mechanics and has reported for the magazine on digital forensics and on the counterterrorism programs of the New York Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.

I was really taken in by many of the conspiracy theories via internet sites and dvds. Looking further into the subject from a broader field has made me realise the truth is far more straightforward. This book takes many of the theories about 911 and debunks them based on vast research done with hundreds of experts on engineering, demolition, metals, fire, etc. Excellent read. The bulk of the book is only about 100 pages. The end is many pages referencing all those they spoke to. It's excellently researched, wonderfully written and features many photographs from 911.

Books like this, when compared to the official reports by the U.S. governments own agency NIST (National Institute for Standards and Technology), and in particular their November 2008 final report on WTC Building 7, seem insane. No wonder people are debunking "Popular Mechanics" nowadays Debunking 9/11 Debunking: An Answer to Popular Mechanics and Other Defenders of the Official Conspiracy Theory because the supposed backing to the official story that this book gives merely undermines it. Here is 1 glaring example. Popular Mechanics ("PM") wrote that Building 7 collapsed because it was structurally impaired by falling masonry from WTC 1 (the north tower); it wrote that a huge chunk of the building had been "scooped" out by falling metal beams, yet, in NIST's November 2008 official US government-backed report, we see this : "the damage from debris from WTC1 (the north tower) had little effect on initiating the collapse of WTC Building 7". Amazon will not let me put in the exact web address but you can see this report yourself, today, onmline if you search for 'NIST November 2008 final report on Building 7'.
"PM" makes more mistakes ... it's not only this glaring goof-up!
They state boldly that NIST will never declare the reason for collapse of Building 7 as due to fires ... as every man and his dog can find out, no steel frame high-rise has ever fallen neatly into its own footprint - at FREE-FALL speed (which NIST also acknowledges happened! Free-fall speed ... that means whatever was once below was simply and suddenly not below the structure any longer, and it fell, as if there was nothing below!) and then, in November 2008 NIST states the only reason for collapse was fire.
In the light of these and other glaring mistakes, who can believe "PM" again, on this issue?

For readers who are keen to know what substance there is to the millennium's first `conspiracy theory' - 911 - this book will go a very long way to answering the question.

The book is an expansion of the 2004 work by staff of the `Popular Mechanics' publication. In total, 300 professionals were interviewed and submitted highly technical, and ultimately satisfying, answers to the more popular `conspiracy theories' that have grown and infected the public consciousness since the earliest days following the attacks on the US.

Arranged in four main chapters, the various experts confront issues concerning the planes, the WTC, the Pentagon and flight 93.

There is a very incisive `afterword' written by James Meigs - the Editor In Chief of Popular Mechanics - entitled. `The Conspiracy Industry'.

If you already a so-called `truther', you will, no doubt be aware of this book and, almost certainly, you will regard it as sinister Government propaganda.
If, on the other hand, you have no emotional commitment to, or need of, a conspiracy, this book will dispel any doubts that you may ever have had about the nature of the 911 attacks.
