I've really enjoyed reading this book and learned from it. Sadly, I didn't save by buying here at Amazon but thought it rated a review nonetheless. The fact that I bought it in the bookstore where I was browsing it speaks volumes.

I think it is best read when you've found your way around VB but hopefully before you've aquired too many habits - so for the new to intermediate VBers. I suspect those with much VB experience probably would know and understand the issues raised.

Why it is a useful reference is because it goes through a range of issues explaining why you do things in a certain manner in a way that many other VB books don't - they assume you know. I certainly wish I'd had this before I took the VB6 Desktop exam. It usefully includes a chapter on the Package and Deployment wizard. Not something well covered in books - or the MSDN library for that matter.

The book is hard to categorise as it is more covered than the book's title might imply. There are 15 chapters, the first two being on design & deployment methods. Then, Debugging, Errors, Conditional Compilation, Windows API, ActiveX Data, ActiveX Controls, User Interface, Optimization & Tuning, COM, Package & Deployment, MS Office, Databases, Web & DHTML, and lastly a look ahead to VB.net (VB7). So not a book purely on error trapping and debugging but more about good practice.

The style is very readable for a software book and appropriately illustrated. Recommended.

Lots of good information on debugging 10 Mar 2002
By Bunny Bear - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is one of those books that might be good enough only because the subject it deals with is rare. I have not worked very much with Visual Basic to say how useful it is. From my experience with Access VBA I thought it dealt nicely with debugging tools and error handlers. I wanted to get a better feeling of debugging before going into other VBA books that reports indicate to be full of bugs. The book is nice in that it briefly touches on subjects like ADO. It seems like it will make a good reference. I really can't complain much since I paid one buck for the book. The only negative criticism that I can say to the authors is that the word open in Spanish is not abir, but abrir.

David Jung and Jeff Kent have done it again! This book is a MUST have for any serious (or at least kinda serious) VB programmer or anyone who just has an interest in learning how to make their programs run better -- easier and faster. The book is easy to understand and written for someone WITHOUT a PhD. This book is the perfect companion to the Jung/Kent Visual Basic programming book. You gotta buy it!
