Book Description

15 Jun 2012
Fiddler is a Web Debugging Proxy platform that monitors and modifies web traffic. This freeware tool enables developers, testers, and enthusiasts to inspect traffic, set breakpoints, and "fiddle" with incoming or outgoing data. Fiddler includes powerful event-based scripting, and can be extended using any .NET language. FiddlerCore, the core proxy engine underlying Fiddler, is available to integrate into any .NET application. In this book, you'll learn to fully exploit the power of Fiddler to debug traffic from virtually any web-related application, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and thousands more. You'll see how to debug HTTPS traffic, and use Fiddler with popular devices like iPhone/iPod/iPad, Windows Phone, and others. After exploring the hundreds of built-in features, you'll learn to extend Fiddler using the FiddlerScript engine or build your own applications atop the FiddlerCore class library.

It's a good reference book for Fiddler. Generally you don't need it but I bought it just to show support for Fiddler as it's an amazing product and it's free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Save time and buy this book if you use Fiddler on a regular basis. 2 July 2012
By magicmac2000 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is *invaluable* if you work with Fiddler on a regular basis. I've learned tons of tricks this weekend.
Am I the only one who didn't use the QuickExec? Wow! This feature and its commands need more marketing! Same thing with all the possibilities of the autoresponder and the replacements on the action text! I've been using Fiddler for six years, but in the last 48 hours I learned more than ever.

The author clearly takes the "User Manual/Reference" approach, describing all the features in a logical way. Even if I read the full book, it's clear that you can skip chapters and go straight to what you need. IMHO, the book deserves a full read anyway, because you will find -for sure- features that you didn't know about, time savers.

Another good point is that the contents are updated, to the point that it describes how to debug traffic from Windows 8 apps and HTML5 WebSockets. Also, you will find clear descriptions on how to debug traffic coming from other devices like cell-phones, tablets, or even other OS like Mac.

If you are a Fiddler user who is only scratching Fiddler's surface, you will for sure go to the next level by reading (or even skimming) this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Game changer 2 Dec 2012
By D. Roberti - Published on Amazon.com

If you use Fiddler in your work, but have never really dug into its features, this is a terrific book. The extensibility of Fiddler is particularly cool. It was easy to use .NET to create a Fiddler extension very quickly. The openness of the tool is amazing.

But there's also lots of great out of the box stuff that is useful to learn about as well. Thanks to Eric Lawrence for making such a difference for so many people.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for anyone who has to work with web applications 6 Aug 2012
By C. Jackson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fiddler is the go-to tool for anyone who has to troubleshoot web applications (either yours or someone else's). I've been using Fiddler for years, and have found it invaluable. However, I had no idea how much of Fiddler I was missing until I read Eric's book. Having already thought that Fiddler was impressively powerful, I've discovered a huge number of additional ways that I can use the tool for resolving issues more quickly. I am glad I bought this book, and it was worth every penny.
