This polish looks so pretty in the product pics, but I have always hesitated about purchasing this polish because of the price, and I'm not really a fan of the polishes that have large glitter pieces in them. I'm so glad I finally took the chance and ordered Deborah Lippmann's "Across the Universe", it really is amazing! The dark blue gel base of this polish lets the glitter stay suspended, the glitter doesn't just sit on top of the polish.This gives the polish an incredible depth that is unique. Gel polishes do tend to be translucent, so if you want an opaque look, just put a coat of dark blue or teal polish on first, then 2 to 3 coats of "Across the Universe" and finish with a thick coat of Seche Vite to leave a smooth finish. Just gorgeous! Wear is typical of gel polishes, tip wear shows after a day or so, this is easy to fix by a quick touch up on nail edges. If you like polishes that are sparkly and out of the ordinary, you'll love this!

This is a review for "Happy Birthday" from Deborah Lippmann. The other reviews are about other colors, but I thought it was important that there be one here that was about this color, because this is my favorite nail polish ever. It goes over most any color or just over your plain nails. It is clear polish with chunky, unstructured multi-colored glitter--so it's all different sizes. It can be blingy if you use several coats. It can be even nicer if you just use one coat, as the glitter is fun and random and it's not as flashy. I love it any way at all. I vary the look depending upon my mood.

It can go over any color except something that is gold or with golden tones, because it has silver chunks that wouldn't match as well. It is described as "a party on your hands" by Deborah Lippmann and I have to say that this is what it is for me--fun to look at, playful, gorgeous. I get compliments on it all the time.

Deborah Lippmann products are very expensive and worth it. When you think about how long they last in the bottle and on your hands, you are actually saving money. It's just a big outlay at first (again, worth it!).

Highly recommended.

This gorgeous new color from Deborah Lippmann is great. It looks like it might be solid gold, but it isn't; it's mostly clear, but with a very slight gold tint and amazing gold glitter. The glitter is unstructured (like "Happy Birthday")--so it's chunky, of different sizes, and very subtle and classy. The glitter is classy enough that it could be worn by anyone at anytime, even to a formal affair--it's not like a teen product or blingy at all. To make it more intense, you just use another coat. I like it both ways--subtle and intense--depending upon my mood and my activities.

For every day wear: I wear two coats of Deborah Lippman Base Coat Ridge Filler as a base coat, followed by a base color of some type, and topped by "Boom Boom Pow" for sparkle, then Deborah Lippmann "Hard Rock" or "Addicted to Speed" as a top coat. These are all pricey and admittedly these are a lot of products, but they result in an incredibly beautiful and long-lasting polish that I get compliments on all the time. It lasts for about ten days. I do refresh with a top coat as needed because I do a lot of things with my hands. My nails are hard, strong, and beautiful with Deborah Lippmann products. I don't know of any that are better.
