Hi, I'm Deborah Done and I'm the author of Lake District Unlocked.
Born in Manchester, I have lovely memories of long and happy summers spent in the Lake District when I was growing up. I can still smell Sarah Nelson's gingerbread and hear the lapping of the oars rowing on Grasmere.
I moved here permanently in 2008. Having spent 12 years in the rat race in London, I decided to become a country mouse instead - which suits me far better.
My friends Emily and Josh had come up with the fantastic idea of the Unlocked travel guides for children and asked me to write the Lake District edition. I spent last summer exploring the whole of Cumbria with my son Josh (basically playing at being a kid again) to research the guide.
We braved wet and cold, faced all types of animals and beasts, scaled the heights of the fells and plumbed the depths of slate mines to bring you this book - and we enjoyed every moment!
I hope you'll find the experiences as much fun as we did. Don't be boring - go exploring!
