Product Description

DEATHWORLD centers on Jason dinAlt, a professional gambler who uses his somewhat erratic psionic abilities to tip the odds in his favor. He is challenged by a man named Kerk Pyrrus (who turns out to be the ambassador from the planet Pyrrus) to turn a large amount of money into an immense sum by gambling at a government-run casino. He succeeds and survives the planetary government's desperate efforts to steal back the money. In a fit of ennui, he decides to accompany Kerk to his home, despite being warned that it is the deadliest world ever colonized by humans...DEATHWORLD!

DEATHWORLD is one of the classics of the Golden Age of science fiction, born in the pages of Astounding Science Fiction under the editorship of John W. Campbell, Jr. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Deathworld revisited 26 Dec 2010
By Lumpy
Format:Kindle Edition
Having read harry Harrison many years ago and not for some time I downloaded Deathworld onto my new kindle mainly due to the price however upon rereading the book I remembered why I had loved these stories so much the first time round. It is a pacey novel which has survived the years well. Harry Harrison was one of the first sci fi authors I read and helped to develop my love of the genre. Good old school action packed sci fi. I now intend to revisit some of this authors other books.

I dipped a toe into Sci Fi years ago as a teenager but must have missed Harry Harrison. However within a few pages I was transported back to that era. It has dated a wee bit but not much. Harrison creates an interesting and convincing world and the Science doesn't overwhelm the Fiction.

Dated but interesting
AS said the prose feels a bit dated but it's a pretty interesting face paced book and well worth the low purchase price on Kindle.

Worth the effort
A tale of one mans battle against both his environment and those around him.

Not the longest book you'll ever read but, in usual Harrison style, a well told, page turner... Read more

Fantasy at its best
A great story which keeps you interested to the end. It feels a little dated in the style of writing and characterisation. Read more

Awesome book
Fantastic book. I have read it years ago and after watching James Cameroon's Avatar decided to read it again to see how much did he "borrow" from it. In my humble opinion - a lot. Read more
