this book had me in its grip from the very start. I wondered how such a heroine could deal with crime, but the character did so with intelligence and a wicked sense of humour! Best I've read in ages!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusually based mystery, 2 Jan 2002

With a mute, quadriplegic heroine at its centre, you might think it would be difficult for this book to create page-turning suspense, but you would be very wrong.
A child-killer is on the loose and only one small child holds the key, which is given to the heroine. But how can she investigate from her sickbed? This book had me hooked early on and I can only hope more of the writer's books get translated into English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Original, 25 Jun 2001

This review is from: Death from the Woods (Hardcover)
An original storyline takes the reader at breakneck speed through a world of murder, deceit and terror through the eyes of a blind and mute quadroplegic. From the first page I was gripped by the plight of Elise as we enter into her mind and observe the sharp thinking and dry homour that the other characters can't see or hear. The terror she feels when threatened, the frustration at not being able to communicate and the joy as slight movements are regained. I'm not sure whether this is a thriller, a murder story or a human tale but one thing is for sure - it is a cracking read.
