Book Description

25 Feb 2010

5 September 1992

Fifteen-year-old Norma Jean Judd disappeared from her home never to be seen again.

5 September 2010

Exactly eighteen years later, Bryan Judd, Norma Jean's twin, is pulled from the searing heat of a hospital incinerator. When his charred remains are examined, the murder squad confirms that his death was no accident. Could it somehow be linked to his sister's disappearance?

For DI Peter Shaw and DS George Valentine, the case proves their most intriguing yet. As they begin their investigation into Bryan's life, they uncover a secret world of criminal activity in Bryan's neighbourhood and at the hospital where he died. Can Shaw and Valentine solve Bryan's murder before any more lives are violently snatched away? And will they ever learn the truth about what happened to Norma Jean?

1.0 out of 5 stars Really disappointed 30 May 2010
By slb
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have loved all Kelly's previous books and normally read them in one sitting. I really disliked this one and was very disappointed. I found it deeply unpleasant - could not get involved with or care about any of the characters and the story line was so extreme that it was quite grotesque. Apologies to those who enjoyed it but this was not one of his better books. I did read it all but breathed a huge sigh of relief when I had finished it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Let down 12 May 2010
By J. Long
Format:Paperback
I didn't enjoy this book at all. I couldn't get to grips with all the different people and felt no empathy towards any of them (apart from Valentine). Most unusual for me I skipped a huge chunk towrds the end as I couldn't wait to finish it ~ but not in the usual "can't wait to finish it" way. I too loved the Dryden series but this just didn't do it, with apologies to all those who loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mean Sreets of Lynn 29 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
Ill-matched cops Valentine and Shaw investigate the gruesome murder of Bryan Judd in a hospital incinerator. Is his death linked to the disappearance of his twin sister 18 years ago? Clever, intuitive, highly-trained DI Shaw and old-school, streetwise, chain-smoking DS Valentine uncover many more grisly secrets before the thrilling conclusion. Intricate plotting, compelling characters and terrific sense of place - who knew King's Lynn held so many guilty secrets? Read it in one sitting.
