A severely disappointing collection. Containing 550 photographs on 300 pages, most of this book reproduces photograph/scans of "classic" sized polaroid prints largely from 1998-2001. There is very little, if any, photographic evidence of the Manics 1991-95, and no identifiable images post 2001. Whilst this is a high quality product in terms of print and paper, the content itself is lacking : at least a third of the images are not identfiable at all, being random (albeit somewhat picturesque) photographs of buildings, nature, snowmen, and steps. Of the rest, probably a quarter are appended by some kind of biro-enscribed marks by Mitch Ikeda, and therefore about a half are shorn of context, date, location, and detail the band hanging around aimlessly. Very little photography of the band performing, and probably the most interesting are those shots taken by photographers from 1991-2001 as test runs for well known photo shoots. There are large clumps of blank and white space, which is designed somewhat randomly, and the photographs are not arranged chronologically, so there is no sense of passing through time. This is nothing more glorious reproductions of less than amazing, often blurry polaroids of little interest. Perhaps the most interesting thing would be a set of interviews and commentary by Nicky Wire (one with Jeremy Deller), and thelurid pink cover. Had I had opportunity to flick through it, I would've certainly put it back down. A disappointment and of little interest to anyone but the band themselves and their shrinking band of fervently fanatical disciples.
